Established in 1995 by ethnomusicologist Marco Magistrali, in collaboration with Carlo Di Silvestre and at the request of the Altofino Association following a research campaign in the Alta Val Fino, Valfino al canto is a festival that gathers musicians from communities where cultural identity remains a vibrant subject of reflection. The festival embraces a form of expression rooted in the oral tradition, where singing and music are primarily spontaneous practices tied to both religious and secular moments of life, to the social communities that sustain them, and to their direct transmission across generations. Its main objective is to preserve the creative processes and stylistic essence of this musical heritage by providing it with an appropriate and “protected” setting.
