International Folklore Meeting
The International Folklore Meeting is an event conceived by Cesare Baiocco and the late mayor Antonio Fabri, a longtime cultural promoter deeply connected to the region’s music and popular traditions. This festival is among the longest-standing events dedicated to the promotion of folk dance and music, bringing together folk and musical groups from around the world. Held alongside the “Sagra del Pane Casereccio” [home made bread festival], the International Folklore Meeting centers on the ancient dance of the “Laccio d’Amore” [ribbons of love knot dance] which remains widely cherished, taught, and performed in the town. It is especially prominent during weddings, where the weaving of ribbons to the rhythm of ssaldarellë (saltarello or saltarella) continues to fulfill its original symbolic role as a good omen for the couple’s union.
