At the close of each summer, a farm nestled in the countryside comes alive with a celebration of culture, craftsmanship, and local delicacies. The event, organized by the Commentucci family—the managers of the La Canestra farmhouse and stewards of ancient seeds and traditions—features a variety of stands showcasing ancient crafts and the process of producing the region’s finest agricultural goods, such as parsnips, honey, legumes, and cheeses. It offers both adults and children the chance to experience hands-on activities like plowing and sowing a field, crafting wooden or iron tools, dancing to the musical traditions of the central Apennines, and participating in specialized workshops led by farmers, artisans, and artists. These workshops take place in the mountain setting of Aglioni. Attendees can also taste the parsnip, a recently rediscovered tuber that has earned a Slow Food designation for its nutritional and cultural significance in an area with few resources. This is the first time the parsnip is available in various preparations, right where it is grown.
